In 1961 Gennady Zyuganov graduated
from a secondary school. He worked there as a
teacher for one year. In 1962 Zyuganov
entered the physical-mathematical department of
the Oryol Pedagogical College. From 1963 till
1966 he served in the Soviet Army. In 1966
Gennady Zyuganov became a Communist Party member.
From 1967 Gennady Zyuganov occupied the
elective posts of district, city and regional
groups.
From 1969 to 1970 after graduating from
the Oryol Pedagogical College Gennady Zyuganov
worked at the College.
From 1971 to 1974 Gennady Zyuganov was
first secretary of the Oryol Young Communist
League regional committee.
From 1974 to 1983 Gennady Zyuganov was
secretary of the district committee, second
secretary of the Oryol Communist Party town
committee. Then he headed the propaganda and
campaigning section of the Oryol regional
committee of the CPSU. From 197 8 to 1980
Gennady Zyuganov studied at the main department
of the Academy of Public Sciences under the
Communist Party Central Committee. Then he was a
part-time postgraduate student there. In 1980 Gennady
Zyuganov had defended his doctoral thesis. In 1983-1989
Zyuganov worked as an instructor at the
propaganda and campaigning section of the
Communist Party Central Committee. He headed the
section. In 1989-1990 Gennady Zyuganov
became deputy a head of the propaganda and
campaigning section of the C ommunist Party
Central Committee (the so-called ideological
section).
In June-September 1990 Gennady Zyuganov
was a delegate of the Russian Communist Party
Inaugural Congress. In June 1990 he was a
delegate of the XXVIII Communist Party Congress.
In June 1990 at the first Inaugural
Congress, when the Communist Party of the Russian
Federation had been founded, Gennady Zyuganov was
elected as secretary of the Central Committee, a
member of the Communist Party Politbureau and
chairman of the perm anent commission of the
Russian Communist Party Central Committee on
humanitarian and ideological problems.
Gennady Zyuganov, among others, helped to convene
a conference "For great, united
Russia". (Moscow, February, 27 1991).
In July 1991 Zyuganov, as well as other
prominent state, political and public figures
signed a declaration "Appeal to
people".
In August, 19-21 1991, during the coup
d'etat attempt, Zyuganov was on his vacation in
Kislovodsk.
In December 1991 Gennady Zyuganov was
introduced into the Coordinating Council of the
Russian All-People's Union. Also he was elected a
member of the Coordinating Council of he
"Motherland" movement.
On June ,12-13 1992 Gennady Zyuganov took
part in the first Russian National Congress and
became a member of its presidium.
In October 1992 Gennady Zyuganov became a
member of the National Salvation Front Organizing
Committee.
In February, 13-14 1993 at the
Extraordinary session of the Russian Communist
Party Gennady Zyuganov was elected a member of
the Communist Party central executive committee.
At the First organizing Plenum of the Communist
Party Central Executive Com mittee Gennady
Zyuganov was elected chairman of the Central
Executive Committee.
On the 25-th and 26-th of July, 1993
Gennady Zyuganov took part in the second congress
of the National Salvation Front, held in Moscow.
In September, 21 1993 at 8 p.m. Gennady
Zyuganov was at the House of Councils at the
moment when Boris Yeltsin declared the hung
Parliament. Gennady Zyuganov didn't take part in
disturbances in October, 3-4. On the contrary, he
called on the citizens t o keep peace and order
in the country.
On December, 12 1993 Gennady Zyuganov was
elected a deputy of the 1-st (5-th) State Duma ,
on the Russian Communist Party federal list.
On April, 28 1994 Zyuganov took part in
procedure of signing the National Accord Treaty.
But he didn't put his signature under the Treaty.
In April-May 1994 Zyuganov was one of the
initiators of "Accord for Russia"
movement.
In January, 21-22 1995 at the III
Communist Party Congress Gennady Zyuganov became
chairman of the Russian Communist Party Central
Committee.
In December, 17 1995 Gennady Zyuganov was
elected a deputy of the 2-nd (6-th) State Duma on
the Federal list of the "Communist Party of
the Russian Federation" faction.
On the 4-th of March 1996 Gennady Zyuganov
was registered as a candidate to the Presidential
